Serve with us!

Music

Do you enjoy singing? Consider joining our choir! All sections are accepting new members. We rehearse before the 10:30 service on Sundays., and we would love to welcome you! For more information, contact music@stnicholasbirchcliff.com.

Worship ministry

Have you ever thought about being a server, crucifer or torchbearer? To find out more, you can speak to speak to Fr. Andrew by phone or email at fr.andrew@stnicholasbirch.com. The time commitment is typically once every 3-4 weeks.

Sidespeople

If you’re looking for a way to contribute to our worship but you’re not sure what’s right for you, what about becoming a sidesperson? You’d be part of a dedicated team of people who greet worshippers with an order of service and a smile as they come into the church.

We also collect the offering, oversee the movement of people on the way to Communion, and we’re there to catch you if you trip on the steps! Be part of this important ministry in the life of our parish. Speak to Sonia Halloran or any sidesperson on duty on any Sunday.

Bringing forward the Elements

Every Sunday, two people are invited to take the bread and wine up to the altar at the Offertory. If this is something you’d like to do, maybe to mark a special day or anniversary, speak to one of the sidespeople on duty on any Sunday. They’ll take note of your name and the date on which you’d like to take on this important role.

Altar guild

Being an Altar Guild member takes one hour Saturday morning and some time after the service on Sunday once a month. The Altar Guild also cleans and performs maintenance on the various items used at the altar.

Altar flowers
Each week, the flowers on both altars can be given in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a significant life event (anniversary, birthday, baptism, etc.). If you’d like to do this, write your name and phone number on the calendar at the back of the church. As the week approaches, Iris Hogan will give you a call to see if you have any colour requests and to get the wording for the bulletin.

Payment of $60 can be put in an envelope clearly marked “For Altar Flowers” and placed on the collection plate. You can also pay through our online donation account here on the website. Add in the donation message that it’s for altar flowers, and send the message to the church office email. It’s OK for more than one person/family to sign up for the same week.

Ministry of hospitality

In the letter to the Romans, St. Paul encourages us as a community to practice hospitality. You can participate in the ministry of hospitality by helping with Coffee Hour after the 10:30 a.m. service. Consider taking a turn to prepare coffee, tea and goodies. It doesn’t have to be a big spread, and when several people work together it's much easier and more fun.
