Saint Nicholas - (the real one) was a person - Nicholas of Myra, a 3rd century bishop in what is now the country of Turkey. Nicholas had a reputation for secret gift-giving, and is now commonly associated with the mythical person: Santa Claus. More detail on both the real saint and the mythical one here »
